Alton Towers sentencing: CCTV reveals moment Smiler crashed

CCTV footage has been released of the moment the Smiler ride crashed at Alton Towers, leaving two teenagers needing leg amputations.

The park's operator Merlin Attractions has been warned to expect a "very large fine" for health and safety breaches as sentencing begins.

This CCTV shows the ride in operation on the 2 June last year, before one carriage smashes into an empty car, trapping its occupants.
