WWII Dornier bomber was shot at from behind

The team working to restore a German World War II bomber salvaged from the English Channel have found the aircraft was shot at from behind.

The discovery could upset the theory that the Dornier Do-17 was downed by an RAF Defiant flown by Pilot Officer Desmond Hughes and rear gunner Sgt Fred Gash.

The badly-damaged aircraft is currently undergoing work at the RAF Museum in Cosford, Shropshire.
