Basildon parents condemn term-time holiday fine
Parents of a 13-year-old boy have said it was unfair they have been fined for taking their child out of school because he went on a holiday with his dying grandfather.
Alfie Cannon, from Basildon, Essex, missed two weeks of school when he went on a family trip to Malta.
His parents did not gain permission from Alfie's head teacher, so they have been fined £120.
