Norwich Cathedral peregrine falcons: First chick fledges nest

The first of four peregrine falcon chicks nesting on Norwich Cathedral spire has fledged the nest.

The bird, thought to be a male, left the nest, on a platform 75m (246ft) above the ground, at 04:42 BST.

David Gittens, from the Hawk and Owl Trust, who has been monitoring a live video stream, external from the nest, said "It headed for the safety of a perch on the bell tower of the cathedral and will await the arrival of the parent birds," he said.

The chicks, two males and two females, hatched at the end of April.
