Lufton Roman villa dig uncovers additional rooms

Archaeologists excavating the remains of a Roman villa near Yeovil have unearthed new finds including a cooking jug, additional rooms and evidence of underfloor heating.

The site at Lufton was excavated in the 1950s and 1960s by local archaeologist Leonard Hayward.

Researchers and students from Newcastle University are halfway through a 28-day dig at the site.

The site of the villa - one of only four known villas in the country - will be open to the public from 10:00 BST on Saturday.
