Vince Cable conference speech in full

Vince Cable has addressed delegates at the Liberal Democrat autumn conference, with a speech he was forced to defend before he even delivered it.

The business secretary said he must be "doing something right", if his criticism of city greed touched a chord.

He called for action to stop capitalism "killing competition", attributing the idea to the free-market economist Adam Smith.

Mr Cable also said he wanted action taken against what he called "the spivs and gamblers" in the city.
