David Willetts: Tuition fees proposals a fair deal

Universities minister David Willetts has said that Lord Browne's recommendations for unlimited tuition fees is a "good argument".

Mr Willetts said the proposals put universities in England on a strong financial footing, whilst providing a "fair deal" for students.

The recommendations set out by Lord Browne suggest a free market with charges of up to £12,000 a year for a degree course, however universities that charge more than £6,000 a year would lose a proportion of the fee to help cover the cost of student borrowing.
