'Year's free tuition' for poorest say new government

The government has moved to try and ease fears about the planned increase in university tuition fees, saying students from poorer families could have their fees paid for them for up to two years.

MPs will vote on Thursday whether fees in England should increase to a maximum of £9,000 a year.

The leader of the Labour Party, Ed Miliband, has accused the coalition government of "cultural vandalism" over university tuition fees saying it's an "assault on social mobility in the country."
