Army e-mail redundancies were 'gross failure' says Tory MP
Conservative MP and former army officer Patrick Mercer who said the army decision to lay off staff by email was "a gross failure that should not be excused".
And he said there were lessons from history on why the UK cannot "willy-nilly cut our armed forces".
Shadow defence Secretary Jim Murphy described a "pattern of behaviour which is pretty was shoddy and amateurish", and he said the coalition government was making defence cuts too quickly.
