Lord Reid launches Labour 'No to AV' campaign

The former Health Secretary under Labour, Lord Reid, has launched his party's "No to AV" campaign - the same day as leader Ed Miliband launched a cross-party "Vote Yes" drive.

Lord Reid denied that alternative vote was "fairer" than the current system as the ranking process means some people's votes would be "counted more times than others".

Voters will be asked on 5 May whether they want to keep the existing first-past-the-post system, where people select one candidate, or switch to the alternative vote where they are able to rank candidates in order of preference.
