Nick Clegg: 'We need to promote growth'

Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg has backed the Chancellor's Autumn Statement, ahead of George Osborne's speech to parliament.

Mr Clegg conceded that the economic outlook is worse than the government had predicted, but insisted that the plans laid out in the Autumn Statement would "keep the country safe" from the financial turmoil affecting other European countries.
