Ex-army head Lord Dannatt on UK leaving Afghanistan

Afghanistan has been centre-stage this week in Washington, with mounting pressure on US and UK governments to bring forward troop withdrawal.

The former head of the British army said: "We have got to get this right and the timing is critical." He said that the UK must look after its servicemen.

Lord Dannatt said Britain was trying to make Afghanistan "sufficiently stable" and make Britain safer.

He then debated with his film with Michael Portillo, Alan Johnson and Andrew Neil.
