Fuel strike threat: Hauliers meet government for talks

Energy Secretary Ed Davey meets haulage company representatives on Friday to discuss how they may be able to help keep essential services moving if fuel tanker drivers go on strike.

The government says the dispute, over safety standards and pay and conditions, will not be discussed, only "detailed and robust" contingency plans for a strike.

Petrol stations have reported a rise in demand after ministers told people to top up their supplies, with queues forming at forecourts across the country.
