Bakewell: granny tax funding tax cuts for rich
Labour peer Joan Bakewell said "small amounts of money matter a great deal to older people who don't have very much", when asked why people were annoyed about the so-called granny tax.
Age UK described the change announced in last month's Budget - to come in next year - as "relatively small beer".
But the peer said "nice hard-working people" were being penalised to fund tax cuts for millionaires - and older people were already being hit by inflation, food, travel and VAT rises.
