Osborne: BSkyB conspiracy 'complete nonsense'

The Chancellor George Osborne has told the Leveson Inquiry into press standards it was "complete nonsense" to claim that the Tories did a deal with News Corporation before the last general election.

Rupert Murdoch's media company had been hoping to complete an £8billion bid to take full control of the broadcaster BSkyB - but it fell through in the wake of the phone-hacking scandal at the News of the World.

But George Osborne says the idea the Conservatives did a deal to push through the bid is a "vast conspiracy" that "doesn't stack up".
