Teachers' pay in England linked to performance at work
Headteachers at all schools in England will have the power to decide whether or not to give their staff a pay rise from September.
Paying teachers according to how well they perform is set to put Education Secretary, Michael Gove, on a collision course with teaching unions, who claim the government is tearing up national pay structures.
