Benefits testing: DWP must 'get a grip', says Hodge

The government must "get a grip" on the disability benefits eligibility testing system, according to the chair of the Public Accounts Committee.

Margaret Hodge said the Department for Work and Pensions should "work harder to create competition" for Atos Healthcare, the company which currently carries out capability assessments, and consider withholding funds for poor performance.

A report by the committee found that 40% of appeals against Atos' decisions were successful.
