Energy bill: Tim Yeo calls for UK carbon target

A Conservative MP has tabled an amendment calling for the government to commit to a target to decarbonise by 2030 and to remove the "element of uncertainty" for potential investors in the energy industry.

Tim Yeo said it could lead to lower energy prices, but a wrong decision now would lead to a penalty in the 2020s and 2030s, and he expected some Lib Dems and Tories to back him in the vote on Tuesday afternoon.
