Trust in police officers: David Davis MP and John Apter

Historic allegations around officers' actions in the Hillsborough and Stephen Lawrence cases "make it appear that policing is broken and that is just not the case" said a Police Federation chairman.

Hampshire's John Apter said there must be "full transparent investigations" and that policing "had changed and evolved massively in recent years". He said headlines had been dominated by "the actions of a very, very small minority".

He debated with former shadow home secretary David Davis, who said it was a disgrace on the police that some allegations took up to 20 year to be made public, after they watched a Daily Politics film on trust in police.
