Tom Watson: Labour 'not in hock to Unite union's Len McCluskey'
Labour's former election co-ordinator has denied claims by the prime minister that his party is 'in hock' to the leader of the Unite union.
Tom Watson resigned his post on Thursday, amid a growing row over the selection of a candidate in Falkirk to replace MP Eric Joyce.
Speaking to BBC WM's Adrian Goldberg, Mr Watson said it was clear that "something had gone wrong" in Falkirk, but that David Cameron's assertion that the party was "in hock to Len McCluskey [was] not true."
Mr McCluskey has denounced a Labour internal inquiry into candidate selection, which claimed the union signed up new party members without them knowing, to influence the process.
