Labour defends union links in Falkirk selection row

Labour is "proud of [its] connection to ordinary working people", the shadow leader of the House of Commons has said.

But Angela Eagle told Newsnight that being proud the party's trade union links did not mean that the party can "tolerate what went on in Falkirk".

The comments come after Labour MP Tom Watson resigned as the party's election co-ordinator, amid a growing row over the selection of a candidate in Falkirk to replace MP Eric Joyce.
