Cameron defends early introduction of mortgage scheme

David Cameron has defended the decision to bring forward the next phase of the Help To Buy scheme as the Conservative party conference got under way in Manchester.

Meanwhile outside the conference, a crowd of what police estimate to be as many as 50,000 people gathered to protest against government cuts to services.
