Manchester members of the public react to Autumn statement

Chancellor George Osborne has updated MPs about the state of the economy in his last Autumn Statement before the general election.

His statement included the announcement of a new theatre in Manchester and a new £235m science research centre, based at the University of Manchester but with branches in Leeds, Liverpool, London, Cambridge, Oxford and Sheffield.

People in Manchester's Christmas market said they welcomed the promise of more investment outside London, but saw transport infrastructure as the top priority.
