Theresa May on asylum seekers: Let Britain be a beacon of hope

Home Secretary Theresa May has announced plans to crack down on Britain's rules for asylum seekers, which she says "have been abused for too long".

Speaking at the Conservative party conference in Manchester, she said: "For those who really need it we will offer a longer stay of protection. Humane for those who need our help, tough on those who abuse it."

She told delegates she wanted Britain to be "a beacon of hope" for asylum seekers who genuinely need Britain's help.
