Corbyn: Labour will seek to block grammar school changes

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn says the proposed expansion of academic selection in schools in England is "unfair" and he will seek to block Theresa May's plans in Parliament.

After the prime minister said existing grammar schools should be free to grow and new ones to open, Mr Corbyn said this effectively marked a return to the 11+ system of the 1950s that he argued had divided so many communities.

Under his leadership, he said Labour would seek to form alliances in the House of Lords to try and frustrate the government.
