Benn: Peace in Europe ‘didn’t happen by accident’
The referendum on EU membership to be held in the UK has been described as the most important for a generation. Britain's Prime Minister David Cameron has warned an EU exit could put peace at risk.
Labour's shadow foreign secretary, Hilary Benn told HARDtalk's Stephen Sackur, that the EU's greatest achievement was to bring to an end "centuries of conflict on the continent of Europe".
The way the EU had dealt with the migrant crisis was "by no means perfect" but without the structure binding the 28 nations "there would be a lot more barbed wire, fences and brick walls", he said.
