Governments united for Grangemouth

Representatives of the UK and Scottish governments have been meeting to discuss the future of the petrochemical and refinery at Grangemouth.

Alistair Carmichael, Scottish Secretary in the UK government ,and John Swinney, Finance Secretary in the Scottish government, said the situation looked brighter than it did yesterday.

Unite union had said it was ready to accept a package of savings in the hope of securing a future for the plant.

Its earlier rejection of the proposals prompted the owners Ineos to announce the closure of the petrochemical plant, which employs 800 people.
