Scottish Labour leadership: Murphy says he would 'bring Labour together'

Jim Murphy MP has formally announced his intention to run for leadership of the Scottish Labour Party.

The former Scottish secretary is the third contender to join the race to replace Johann Lamont, who resigned on Friday.

Mr Murphy told BBC Scotland correspondent James Cook: "I'm standing not just to be the Scottish Labour leader, which would be a privilege in itself, but I'm standing to be our candidate to be first minister."

The East Renfrewshire MP went on: "I'm determined to bring the Labour party together and end the period of self-harm that we've had in the Scottish Labour Party and get on and improve our country."

MSPs Sarah Boyack and Neil Findlay have already announced that they are standing.
