Scottish Labour leadership: Murphy's 'London life coming to an end'

Jim Murphy has announced his intention to run for the leadership of the Scottish Labour Party and to be a future first minister of Scotland.

Mr Murphy said he would not be "pushed around" if elected. He said: "No-one will tell me what to do if I'm Scottish Labour party leader" adding, "Scottish Labour party decisions will be made in Scotland."

The former Scottish secretary is the third contender to join the race to replace Johann Lamont, who resigned on Friday.

Mr Murphy told BBC Scotland correspondent James Cook that his career and working life in the House of Commons was coming to an end.

He said: "The House of Commons will always be important to Scotland but the Scottish Parliament will increasingly be the centre of attention and that's where the action is and it's where I want to be."
