Theresa May and Nicola Sturgeon differ on indyref2

The subject of a second independence referendum has divided opinion between Theresa May and Nicola Sturgeon.

Speaking after their first official meeting, the prime minister said: "The Scottish people had their vote and a very clear message came through."

The challenge, she says, is to ensure the whole of the UK gets the best deal possible in any Brexit negotiations with the EU, adding that she is clear that her government is for "all parts of the UK and for all people".

The first minister described the meeting as constructive given that Mrs May had agreed to listen to all options put forward the Scottish government regarding Brexit but was clear that "a second independence referendum is on the table".
