Firm denies £20m Ammanford police station blame

The firm which built a Carmarthenshire police station under a private finance initiative (PFI) deal has denied blame for the failure of talks to renegotiate an estimated bill of more than £20m.

The Ammanford station is costing Dyfed-Powys Police nearly a fifth of its property management budget but its front desk is currently closed to the public as part of a force-wide cost-saving measure.

T.Richard Jones Betws (TRJ) - which paid for the building and leases it to the force under a 30-year deal - said it was difficult to vary the terms of the bank loan which it took out to cover the construction costs.

Steffan Powell, reporting from Ammanford, explained the story to Oliver Hides on BBC Radio Wales.
