Welsh NHS complaints review call by ombudsman
The public service ombudsman for Wales says the case of a mother mistakenly told she had a miscarriage shows the NHS complaints process needs reviewing.
Emily Wheatley, from Monmouth, was told by staff at the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff that she had lost her baby - when a second scan at another hospital confirmed her unborn daughter was still alive.
The Cardiff and Vale Health Board has apologised to Ms Wheatley, who gave birth to a healthy girl.
But the Public Service Ombudsman for Wales, Peter Tyndall, told Oliver Hides of BBC Radio Wales there may be a need for an independent handling of complaints as the board initially denied it had done anything wrong.
