Centralise heart services in west Wales, says report

A new review has recommended centralising services for heart patients in west Wales at one hospital - Glangwili in Carmarthen.

Hywel Dda University Health Board asked the Royal College of Physicians to look at its cardiology services after a number of concerns were raised by doctors and patients.

The report says resources are "stretched" across four hospitals, with some cardiologists describing the care patients receive as "very poor".

The panel also has "major concerns" about the way the health board's hospitals gather statistics about the number of people dying from heart disease.
