Disability: 'Some people see me as the wrong type of dancer'

A man who returned to ballet dancing after an injury left him with a disability has described how some people saw him as the "wrong type of dancer".

Joe Powell-Main, from Newtown, Powys, started ballet at five but stopped dancing for several years after suffering an injury.

Joe believes he is Wales’ first dancer with a disability to have a professional contract with a ballet company.

The 23-year-old refers to himself as "differently abled" rather than disabled because he said it "adds a stigma that people think: 'Oh, well you can only do this'".

“I do things differently, but hopefully it is something new that people have not seen before,” added Joe.
