'I watched her beautiful face become a skeleton'

As MPs debated a proposed law on assisted dying, Newport West MP Paul Flynn read an emotional letter from a constituent in favour of the legislation.

In the letter, the man said he had watched his "dear wife starve herself to death for three weeks - the only way she could help herself to die".

The letter continued: "I watched a lovely lady struggle without food until she she grew so weak that she was unable to lift her arms, or even squeeze my fingers."
