Libya: The battle for Misrata

A French warplane has destroyed a Libyan aircraft - the first since international forces imposed a no-fly zone over Libya.

The plane, a smaller trainer aircraft, had just landed in the besieged city of Misrata when it was attacked, according to French officials.

Forces loyal to Col Gaddafi have continued their assault on the rebel-held town of Misrata, where residents say tanks have shelled an area near the hospital.

John Simpson reports from Tripoli.
