Nigeria-Boko Haram ceasefire announced by defence chief

A ceasefire has been announced between the Nigerian government and the Islamist militant group Boko Haram.

Nigeria's chief of defence staff, Alex Badeh, told the media that the truce has been agreed and that military chiefs are to 'ensure immediate compliance'.

The Nigerian army have been fighting an insurgency by Boko Haram since 2009.
