Kenya Garissa attack: Muslim leaders condemn al-Shabab attack

Kenya's Muslim leaders have condemned an attack on a university campus by al-Shabab militants, in which 148 people died.

Survivors have described how gunmen separated out and killed non-Muslims in Thursday's assault in Garissa. Four of the attackers were killed and five people suspected of involvement are in custody.

Al-Shabab has since pledged a "long, gruesome war" against Kenya, which it says is in retaliation for acts by Kenya's security forces.

Speaking at a news conference on Saturday, Muslim leaders condemned the attack "in the strongest terms possible", insisting that that those responsible were "not Islamists" but "evil criminals".
