Australia election: Rudd admits defeat to Abbott

Kevin Rudd has admitted defeat to Tony Abbott in the Australian election.

Making his speech at The Gabba stadium in Brisbane, Mr Rudd said he wished his rival "well in coping with the stresses and strains of high office that lie ahead".

He added: "I also wish his government well in for the great and difficult challenges that now lie ahead for Australia."
