Philippines aid at an 'unprecedented' level

The most senior US military commander in the Philippines region, Marine Brigadier General Paul Kennedy, has said that America is significantly increasing the resources it is sending to the area.

The aircraft carrier, George Washington, has arrived in the area, tripling the number of helicopters for the relief effort.

Philippine authorities say they are struggling to deal with the humanitarian crisis caused by Typhoon Haiyan.
