Who could be behind jet's disappearance?

Malaysian officials say they are contacting a number of countries over a vast arc of Asia for help in finding missing flight MH370.

Confirmation that the plane's disappearance was not an accident has further focussed attention on the 12 crew, and the passengers.

But the motive for someone taking control of the plane remains a mystery.
