Manipur's polo ponies under threat

The game of polo is often referred to as the sport of kings and requires a combination of excellent horsemanship and the speed and stamina of the steeds.

The modern game, popularised by the British, originated in the tiny north-eastern Indian state of Manipur, where it is still popular, mainly due to the rare local breed of pony.

But conservationists say Manipuri ponies are in decline and in fact they are critically endangered.

The BBC's Anbarasan Ethirajan reports from the Manipuri capital, Imphal.
