Beatification of Pope John Paul II held in Rome

Pope Benedict XVI has begun a mass in Rome for the beatification of the late Pope, John Paul II - the last stage before sainthood.

Choirs sung and crowds applauded as the Pope arrived in St Peter's Square for the ceremony.

The BBC's Duncan Kennedy, who is in Rome, said John Paul II's coffin would be move to a more prominent place.
