Turkey general election: The Kurdish question

Ahead of the Turkish general election on 12 June 2011, the BBC's Jonathan Head has been to the Kurdish city of Diyarbakir to test the mood there.

He witnessed a rally by the main Kurdish party, the BDP, at which support was evident for the PKK armed rebel group and its jailed leader Abdullah Ocalan.

Two years ago, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan launched his 'Kurdish Initiative' promising a new approach to the Kurdish question.

But the process has stalled, and Kurds complain they are still being prosecuted for their political views.
