Can bank crisis solve Cyprus division?

Turkish-Cypriot residents of northern Cyprus are closely monitoring the financial and banking crisis in the southern, Greek-Cypriot region, amid speculation as to what the situation could mean for the future of the island.

Cyprus became divided in 1974, when a pro-Greek military coup inspired a Turkish military intervention in the north.

Turkey is the only country to recognise the northern territory, with the south generally regarded as the Republic of Cyprus.

Some are now asking if the crisis could signify an opportunity for Turkish-Cypriots, or even for a peaceful settlement of the Cyprus problem.
