Ukraine crisis: EU deal brings closer ties

President Putin has signed a law formalising Russia's annexation of Crimea from Ukraine calling it a "remarkable event".

It comes as the new authorities in Ukraine and the European Union sign an agreement committing them to closer political and economic ties.

The deal is part of the same agreement that the former Ukrainian president rejected back in November leading to protests and eventually his overthrow.
