Ukraine inmates escape shelled Donetsk prison

More than 100 inmates have escaped a high-security prison on the outskirts of Donetsk, eastern Ukraine, after it was struck by five artillery shells.

The blasts sparked a riot in which 106 inmates escaped - 34 of whom have since been recaptured, Ukraine's prison service says.

One prisoner was killed, five were injured and two guards were also hurt.

Ukrainian government artillery has been pounding areas on the outskirts of the city, held by pro-Russian separatists.
