Putin: Russia helped Yanukovych to flee Ukraine

On the eve of the Ukrainian elections, Russian President Vladimir Putin has admitted for the first time that he helped the former Ukrainian leader Viktor Yanukovych escape, after he was toppled by protests in February.

Speaking in Sochi on Friday, Mr Putin said Mr Yanukovych had asked to be driven away to Russia.
