Ireland to hold same-sex marriage referendum

The Republic of Ireland is preparing to hold an historic referendum on legalising same-sex marriage.

On 22 May citizens will be asked whether or not people should be allow to marry, regardless of their gender.

If it passes, Ireland will become the 18th country in the world to legalise same-sex unions.

Activists from both sides of the debate have produced promotional videos, including one which features Brendan O'Carroll, the star of the BBC's Mrs Brown's Boys.
