Egypt: Morsi removal 'a democratic coup'

The removal of Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi by the army can be seen as a "democratic coup", according to some Middle East analysts.

Sakhr al-Makhadhi told BBC News that the army was not acting exclusively on the will of the people, but many felt that Mr Morsi had become more authoritarian.

Since Mr Morsi was removed from leadership dozens of people have been killed in clashes between his supporters and opponents.

Analyst Sakhr al-Makhadhi said that the crisis was the "first democratic test" of the Arab Spring, and would be watched closely by the rest of the world.
